Government House is gearing up for a summer chock-full of engaging activities.
“Anyone who’s interested in Saskatchewan history should visit Government House,” Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Mark Docherty said. “There are activities for children, adults, the growing number of people new to our province - everyone. This property enhances the vibrant quality of life residents and visitors enjoy here in our province.”
First up is a Government House open house taking place Thursday, June 19. Government House will be open late - until 9 p.m. Visitors will be able to experience everything Government House offers during the day. They can stroll through the Edwardian Gardens, geocache, take part in a scavenger hunt, or explore the museum at their leisure.
Throughout the summer, horticultural enthusiasts can participate in a special tour of the Edwardian Gardens Sunday, June 22, Sunday, July 20 and Sunday, August 17. Tours are hosted by special guests from the Regina Horticultural Society and run from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.
Theatre lovers are invited to visit Government House Monday, Tuesday and Saturday afternoons from July 5 until September 1. Professional actors will reimagine events and conversations that took place within the walls of Government House during the early 1900s through short, 20-minute vignettes. The vignettes, entitled Pathways to History, are part of a project initiated and developed by the Société historique de la Saskatchewan.
Guests who prefer movies to live theatre can visit Government House Wednesday, August 6 for the house’s first ever outdoor movie night. The production is to be determined. Fans who follow us on Twitter, or like our Facebook page can help Government House staff select the film closer to the date.
Visitors can experience Government House any day of the summer. They can pre-order a picnic basket from Butler’s Pantry and enjoy lunch on the lawn before strolling through the public Edwardian Gardens, or they can explore our museum and view our new feature exhibit, Jewels of the Crown: Women of Government House, to learn about the women who have had a profound impact on the house.
