Government Invests $49,000 in Kids Help Phone to Support Saskatchewan Youth

Released on June 13, 2014

Today, Regina Douglas Park MLA Russ Marchuk on behalf of Education Minister Don Morgan, announced the Government of Saskatchewan will provide $49,000 to Kids Help Phone to continue their work supporting youth in Saskatchewan.  This funding will be used for outreach initiatives which include engaging students and teachers, and raising awareness of the services Kids Help Phone provides.

“The Government of Saskatchewan remains committed to helping create safe and accepting environments where our children are free from all forms of bullying and violence,” Marchuk said.  “Kids Help Phone provides an exceptional service for young people, and we are proud to support their work.”

In 2013, children and youth from 178 Saskatchewan communities used Kids Help Phone, with approximately 20 students using the service each day.

“Through the partnership with the Ministry of Education, a strong foundation has been built to serve Saskatchewan students, and create awareness and support for the young people throughout our province,” Kids Help Phone President and CEO, Sharon Wood said.  “We look forward to continuing our efforts together to sustain this essential work and continue reaching out to kids on these important topics.”

Since 2009, the Government of Saskatchewan has invested $125,000 to Kids Help Phone in Saskatchewan.  This investment aligns with the recommendations in Saskatchewan’s Action Plan to Address Bullying and Cyberbullying to provide students, families and schools with the knowledge, skills, resources and supports to help Saskatchewan children and youth feel safe and accepted at school, in their community and online.
