Protective Services Personnel Honoured in Prince Albert
Released on June 9, 2014
Provincial Secretary Nadine Wilson joined Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield in Prince Albert today to present the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to recipients.
“In large part due to these individuals’ efforts, Saskatchewan’s communities are safer and more secure places,” Wilson said. “This medal recognizes the dedication of these individuals’ to their careers, as it is our citizens who benefit from their work.”
The medal recognizes individuals with 25 years or more of exemplary service protecting Saskatchewan people or their property in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity. Recipients can include firefighters, police officers, corrections workers, Canadian Forces members, conservation officers and emergency medical responders.
The medal program is administered by the Government of Saskatchewan in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies with eligible personnel. The medal was established in 2003.
The Saskatchewan Protective Services insignia comprise a circular medal displaying a shield, stylized western red lily and a royal lion, surrounded by the legend Saskatchewan - Qui civitatem tuentur (who guard the citizenry) and surmounted by the St. Edward’s Crown. The medal is suspended from a ribbon of green and gold stripes, the official colours of the Province of Saskatchewan.
