Protective Services Personnel Honoured in Saskatoon

Released on June 6, 2014

Education Minister and Saskatoon Southeast MLA Don Morgan, representing the Government of Saskatchewan, joined Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield in Saskatoon today to present the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to recipients.

“From one part of our great province to another, Saskatchewan’s communities are safe and secure, largely due to these individuals’ efforts,” Morgan said.  “This is a way to say ‘thank you’ to them for their dedication and investment into their careers, as it is the people of Saskatchewan who see the benefits of their time and effort.”

Recipients of the medal – which recognizes individuals with 25 years or more of exemplary service protecting Saskatchewan people or their property in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity – can include firefighters, police officers, corrections workers, Canadian Forces members, conservation officers and emergency medical responders.

The Government of Saskatchewan administers the medal program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies with eligible personnel.  The medal was established in 2003.

The medal is surmounted by the St. Edward's Crown and bears a shield with a lion on a stylized western red lily and the motto Qui civitatem tuentur (who guard the citizenry).  The medal is suspended from a ribbon of green with two narrow gold stripes, which represent the provincial colours.
