Child and Youth in Care Week Proclaimed

Released on July 7, 2014

Saskatchewan officially proclaimed July 7-11, 2014, Child and Youth in Care Week.

“I hope that every citizen in the province takes the time this week to reflect on and celebrate the value and diversity of youth who are in or from care,” Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said.  “I also commend the Saskatchewan Youth in Care and Custody Network’s efforts to assist in supporting and promoting the needs of these children and youth.”

“Child and Youth in Care Week has been a goal of our organization and youth membership since our inception,” Saskatchewan Youth in Care and Custody Network (SYICCN) Executive Director Stephanie Bustamante said.  “We are excited to recognize the amazing capacity, resilience, and achievements of young people in care or custody throughout this week across the province.”

SYICCN is a non-profit community-based organization that supports and serves youth who are 14-24 years old and are in or from government care.  Through workshops, speaking panels, youth-run projects and recreational activities, SYICCN educates and encourages children and youth in care to assume positive roles in their lives and communities.
