Today the province announced that Anderson Point Campground and Murray Point Campground will receive electrical expansion and upgrades in the coming months. The two campgrounds, situated on Anglin Lake and Emma Lake respectively, are both located in Great Blue Heron Provincial Park.Park users have requested electrical service to a greater number of campsites. The new electrical sites will help our provincial parks meet that demand. Upgrades to existing electrical campsites are being addressed to meet electrical code requirements. Mid City Electric (1979) Ltd. of La Ronge, Saskatchewan has been awarded the contract.
“Our provincial parks play a vital role in supporting a high quality of life experienced in Saskatchewan,” MLA for Saskatchewan Rivers Nadine Wilson said on behalf of Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Mark Docherty. “This investment will help increase visitation and contribute to a strong economy in the area.”
Beginning mid-August 2014 and continuing through late fall, Anderson Point and Murray Point campgrounds will undergo electrical expansion and upgrades. 35 non-electric campsites in Anderson Point Campground will receive electrical service and 29 existing campsites in Murray Point Campground will have their electrical service upgraded. Roadway lighting and related site developments are also included in this work.
This summer marks the one year anniversary of Great Blue Heron Provincial Park. In its first year of operation as a provincial park, it received 87,581 visits.
In 2013, the provincial park system set a record 3.7 million visits.
