The Government of Saskatchewan along with the Assemblée Communautaire Fransaskoise (ACF), University of Saskatchewan, University of Regina, SIAST, College Mathieu and other post-secondary institutions, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) today. This MOU highlights the important work that has taken place over the past year in creating a vision of post-secondary French language education in Saskatchewan.
“The Ministry of Advanced Education will collaboratively work with stakeholders to foster and facilitate a unity of vision with respect to post-secondary French language education,” Minister of Advanced Education Rob Norris said. “Developing post-secondary French language education programs and services for students in Saskatchewan is a priority for all of us.”
“The signing of the MOU indicates that all parties are working toward a common goal of meeting the post-secondary French language education needs of students,” Norris added.
The signatories agreed to the following common principles to reflect the collaborative and cooperative nature of the relationship between the parties regarding post-secondary French-language education:
- Providing French language programs and services based on student need and interest;
- Supporting the creation and development of post-secondary French language education;
- Programs and services that are an integral and unique component of the post-secondary education system in Saskatchewan;
- Working collaboratively and cooperatively to achieve the common goal;
- Respecting the mandates and autonomy of each institution; and
- Valuing the need for post-secondary French language education programs and services to be aligned with francophone community needs as well as provincial economic and labour market priorities.
