In an ongoing effort to help provide more Saskatchewan children with a place to call home, the Ministry of Social Services will continue seeking advice from foster families over the next several months.“Strong foster families are a vital part of any healthy child welfare system,” Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Social Services for Foster Care Greg Lawrence said. “As part of our commitment to transforming child welfare, we are working to maintain and strengthen our valuable network of foster families in Saskatchewan.”
“Our foster families do such wonderful work by opening their hearts and homes to our most vulnerable citizens,” Social Services Minister June Draude said. “Recruitment and retention of foster families is one of my top priorities, and I am excited to see how we can better support these wonderful people.”
Throughout the next several months, Legislative Secretary Lawrence will continue to work closely with the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association to meet with foster families in nine Saskatchewan communities to hear what they have to say about what’s working and any opportunities for improvement in the foster care system.
All of the information gathered from these meetings will be used to help retain current foster families and recruit new ones.
“I am looking forward to finding out what we can do make sure that there are more loving families to provide homes for children in need,” Lawrence said.
