The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $500,000 in a new Home First/Quick Response Home Care project in Prince Albert that will allow seniors to remain safely in their homes longer.
The Prince Albert initiative is part of the Government of Saskatchewan’s $4.5 million investment that also includes programs to benefit seniors in Saskatoon and Regina.
“The Home First/Quick Response initiative provides seniors access to services and supports so they can safely remain in their homes as long as possible,” Health Minister Dustin Duncan said. “Supporting innovative programs like this supports our growth agenda goal of improving the quality of life for all Saskatchewan people.”
Home First/Quick Response will improve access to supports in the community that will allow seniors to safely age within their own homes, and progress to other care options as their needs change. The pilot will:
- Enhance and improve Home Care’s response to crisis and intensive short-term service needs;
- Encourage early discharge from acute care to community options;
- Prevent unnecessary admissions to emergency departments; and
- Engage additional service providers in the system to support seniors in their homes.
“Prince Albert Parkland Health Region is delighted to initiate the Home First strategy in the community of Prince Albert,” Prince Albert Parkland Health Region Chief Executive Officer Cecile Hunt said. “When we provide additional support to older adults through Home First we will allow people to live with more independence and dignity in their own home wherever possible.”
The Prince Albert pilot project will be implemented over the next two years.
