Province Supports New Housing Project in Eston

Released on February 24, 2014

Through the combined efforts of the Government of Saskatchewan and Hearthside Residential Holdings Inc., a new 14-unit residence for moderate-income individuals and couples officially opened today in Eston.

The province, through Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, contributed $300,000 to the initiative from the provincial Summit Action Fund.  This fund was created to help increase housing supply across the province through innovation in the housing sector.

“We are pleased to work with Hearthside Residential Holdings Inc. to help meet a need for affordable supportive rental residences in Eston,” Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter said on behalf of Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation June Draude.  “A key part of the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth is to support individuals and families in greatest housing need.  This project is a great example of how that can happen when we have great partners who share this vision.”

“I sincerely believe that Hearthside Place is destined to become a solid community asset here in Eston, and we owe thanks to many people who have supported our efforts along the way,” Hearthside Residential Holdings Inc. President Dale Vieweger said.  “In particular, I wish to extend special thanks to Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.  They stepped up to the plate financially when no others would.  They believe in small town Saskatchewan, and they respect their elders, as do we.  On a personal level, this opening is a dream come true and I think it is safe to say that without Sask Housing’s support, Hearthside Place Eston would not exist today.”

Located at 203 1st Street West in Eston, Hearthside Place is a supportive living rental residence consisting of 13 one-bedroom suites, five of which will be suitable for couples, as well as one manager suite.

This project is aligned with a number of strategic priorities that were outlined in the Government of Saskatchewan’s Provincial Housing Strategy.  These priorities include the need to increase housing supply, to improve housing affordability and to support individuals and families in greatest need of housing.
