Moose Jaw Business and Supervisor Guilty of Safety Violations

Adam Knudson, operating as Ad’s Roofing of Moose Jaw, pleaded guilty to four charges under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $3,890 in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on January 29, 2014.

Mr. Knudson pleaded guilty to:
  • contravening clause 116(2)(a) of the regulations (failure to ensure that workers used a fall protection system at a temporary work area where a worker may fall three metres or more) and was fined $1,000 with a $400 surcharge;
  • contravening subsection 116.1(4) of the regulations (failure to ensure workers were trained in the safe use of a fall protection system) and was fined $1,000 with a $400 surcharge;
  • contravening clause 96(1)(a) of the regulations (failure to ensure that a worker uses footwear that is appropriate to the risks associated with the worker’s place of employment and occupation) and was fined $200 with a $50 surcharge; and
  • contravening section 17 of the regulations (failure to ensure that all work at a place of employment is sufficiently and competently supervised) and was fined $600 with a $240 surcharge.
The charges relate to an inspection by an occupational health and safety officer on December 21, 2011 at a residential construction site in Moose Jaw.  Two other charges were withdrawn.

In relation to the same case, Chad Knudson, supervisor, Ad’s Roofing of Moose Jaw pleaded guilty to one count under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $840 in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on January 29, 2014.

Mr. Knudson pleaded guilty to:
  • contravening subsection 17(2) of the regulations (failure to ensure workers under his direction comply with regulations made pursuant to The Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 that apply to the place of employment) and was fined $600 with a $240 surcharge.
Occupational Health and Safety conducts worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced. Fatalities and injuries in construction continue to be amongst the highest of any industry in Saskatchewan.
