Celebrate the Season at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum

Released on December 11, 2014

Want to meet Santa’s reindeer? Or enjoy a holiday performance from Frozen’s Queen Elsa?  Swing by the Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) Sunday, December 14 between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. for A Classic Christmas Evening presented by the Friends of the RSM.

Visitors can also decorate cookies, sip hot chocolate, listen to holiday-themed stories and participate in crafts, games and scavenger hunts.

“The RSM Christmas evening is a great way for families to experience the RSM,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Mark Docherty said.  “Not only is it a fun event that brings community members to our provincial museum, it’s a worthwhile fundraiser in support of the RSM.”

A Classic Christmas Evening is sure to delight family members young and old,” Friends of the RSM Executive Director Michelle Hunter said.  “The funds raised through this event will help support research, educational programming and exhibits at the RSM.  In previous years, this event has sold out, so I encourage those interested to buy tickets as soon as they can.”

Tickets for A Classic Christmas Evening are $8 per person, $7 per person for Friends members and free for children younger than two.  To purchase tickets, call 306-757-5951 or visit The Museum Shop.

In addition to the family Christmas event, a variety of children’s programs will take place at the RSM over the Christmas break including two winter-themed storytimes aimed at children five and younger.  Dinosaur ChristmasStorytime takes place Saturday, December 20 at 10:30 a.m. and Winter Animals Storytime takes place Saturday, December 27 at 10:30 a.m.

Children’s drop-in programs occur Mondays and Tuesdays at 1 p.m, while afternoon movies take place Mondays and Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m.  The Paleo Pit, a self-guided children’s playroom, is open daily from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Friends of the RSM is a non-profit, members-based organization and registered charity that raises funds in support of the RSM.  It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.  The Friends provide public programs and events, handle facility rentals, and operate The Museum Shop in Regina and the Discovery Store in Eastend at the T.rex Discovery Centre.  It was established in 1986 by a group of passionate volunteers who wanted to organize a group that could support the museum.

The RSM, located at 2445 Albert Street in Regina, is typically open daily from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.  The museum will be open until 3 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and will be closed Christmas Day.  For more information, visit www.royalsaskmuseum.ca or call 306-787-2815.
