Saskatoon Salon Fined For Failure to File Written Report of Progress

Sunsera Salons Ltd. of Saskatoon pleaded guilty to two counts under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $1,680 in Saskatoon Provincial Court on April 21, 2014.

The company pleaded guilty to:
  • contravening section 35 of the Act on May 4, 2012 (failure to provide the occupational health officer who issued a notice of contravention with a written report of the progress that has been made toward remedying each contravention of the Act or regulations that is stated in the notice) and was fined $600 with a $240 surcharge; and 
  • contravening section 35 of the Act on May 24, 2012 (failure to provide the occupational health officer who issued a notice of contravention with a written report of the progress that has been made toward remedying each contravention of the Act or regulations that is stated in the notice) and was fined $600 with a $240 surcharge.
The company was charged after an inspection on December 15, 2011, determined that a harassment policy needed to be developed and implemented.  One additional charge against the business was stayed.

The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety recommends prosecutions where individuals or companies refuse to comply with the provisions of legislation or where significant risk of injury to workers is present as a result of noncompliance.
