Jason Manulak, operating as Masterworks Roofing, of Regina pleaded guilty to two counts under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $1,040 in Regina Provincial Court on April 14, 2014.
Manulak pleaded guilty to:
- contravening section 116 of the regulations (failure to ensure use of a fall protection system at a temporary or permanent work area where a worker may fall three metres or more) and was fined $600 with a $240 surcharge; and
- contravening section 96 of the regulations (failure to use footwear that is appropriate to the risks associated with the worker’s place of employment and occupation) and was fined $150 with a $50 surcharge.
The charges relate to an inspection in Regina on June 21, 2012, where an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Officer observed workers on a roof without fall protection equipment. One additional charge was stayed.
In a separate matter, Reinhardt Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning Ltd. of Regina pleaded guilty to one count under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $840 in Regina Provincial Court on April 8, 2014.
The company pleaded guilty to:
- contravening section 116 of the regulations (failure to ensure use of a fall protection system at a temporary or permanent work area where a worker may fall three metres or more) and was fined $600 with a $240 surcharge.
The charge was laid after an inspection in Saskatoon on August 30, 2012, where an OHS Officer observed workers working on a roof while in violation of occupational health and safety legislation.
In the first month of 2014-15, there have been 14 convictions for occupational health and safety violations with total fines of nearly $28,000.
