Applications Open for Francophone Community Infrastructure Funding

Released on April 15, 2014

Applications are once again being accepted for the funding of projects under the Francophone Community Infrastructure Fund (FCIF).  The Government of Saskatchewan provides $100,000 annually for the program and Francophone communities and agencies in Saskatchewan have until May 31 to apply for the grants.

“Through the first three years of this program, we’ve seen the positive impact that it has had for Saskatchewan’s francophone communities, making possible the completion of a range of smaller infrastructure projects that have improved facilities where French is used on a daily basis,” Provincial Secretary Wayne Elhard said.  “Saskatchewan’s Francophone communities are growing, contributing to our diversity and economy and this program will help these communities meet the needs of their residents and build upon the strength and vibrancy of French language and culture in the province.”

Since FCIF was established in 2011, the provincial investment of $300,000 has leveraged an additional $409,000 in federal and local investments.  This has supported a wide range of capital projects in the Francophone community intended to:
  • enhance access to and promote Francophone culture and the French language;
  • enhance the quality and use of Francophone community facilities that support cultural vitality; and
  • create greater opportunities to hold events that support cultural vitality.
Funding may be provided for up to two-thirds of the required funds to a maximum of $50,000 per project.  Applicants must contribute at least one-third of all eligible costs.  Applications will be accepted from registered charitable organizations, non-profits and co-operatives applying on behalf of the Francophone community.

Starting this year, the FCIF will be funded through the Cultural Planning and Development Branch of the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport working with Francophone Affairs Branch (FAB).

“The Francophone Community Infrastructure Fund aligns well with other cultural and heritage programs currently under this ministry or overseen by it, contributing to quality of life essential to the well-being of our Saskatchewan communities,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty said.  “I look forward to this spring’s intake of applications as we continue to work closely with FAB to serve the Francophone community as one government.”

Application material can be found at www.pcs.gov.sk.ca/FCIF.  Assistance will be available in French through the French-language Services Centre at 1-888-345-0850 or by email at bonjour@gov.sk.ca.
