Saskatchewan residents are invited to nominate an outstanding literacy volunteer for the 2014 Premiers’ Council of the Federation’s (COF) Literacy Award.
“Each year this award is presented to an individual who currently contributes significant knowledge, time and expertise to help learners, communities and organizations reach their literacy goals,” Premier Brad Wall. “Strong literacy skills provide individuals with greater opportunity to be involved in their communities and society, which also contributes to the success of our province.”
In 2004, the Premiers of Canada’s provinces and territories created the COF Literacy Awards to recognize citizens who are advocates for literacy. Since 2005, this award has been given to an individual from each province and territory who has promoted the importance of literacy in his or her community.
COF focuses on one area of literacy for two consecutive years: learning, leading or volunteering. As in 2013, the 2014 COF Literacy Award will be dedicated to a literacy volunteer and the recipient will be honoured with a presentation ceremony at the legislature in the fall.
The nomination deadline is May 31, 2014. To nominate a literacy volunteer for the 2014 COF Literacy Award, visit www.education.gov.sk.ca/literacy/council-literacy-award.
