KWH Pipe (Canada) Ltd. of Saskatoon has pleaded guilty to one charge under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $42,000 in Saskatoon Provincial Court on March 26, 2014.
The company pleaded guilty to:
- contravening clause 129 (a) of the regulations (failure to ensure that no material was placed, stacked, or stored so as to constitute a hazard to workers) and was fined $30,000 with a $12,000 surcharge.
The charge relates to a workplace fatality in Saskatoon on October 25, 2011. A worker was fatally injured when crushed by a bundle of plastic pipe. Four additional charges against the company were stayed.
In 2013-14 there have been 81 convictions for occupational health and safety violations with total fines of nearly $607,000.
