Senior Municipal Police Officers Honoured with Commissions

Released on April 2, 2014

Five Saskatchewan municipal police officers received Commissioned Officer designations in a ceremony at Government House.  Commissioned officers command their specific unit or service and they receive their authority for command directly from the Crown.

“The dedication and leadership of these officers help keep Saskatchewan a safe place to live, work and raise a family,” Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell said.  “These commissions truly demonstrate the strength of our province’s police services.”

The police officers receiving this year's commissions are Inspector Richard McKenna (Moose Jaw Police Service), Inspector Sheree Ortman (Regina Police Service), Inspector Jeff Rowden (Prince Albert Police Service), Inspector Mitch Yuzdepski (Saskatoon Police Service), and Inspector Corey Zaharuk (Regina Police Service).

Traditionally, the presentation of formal commissions has been made to RCMP officers in recognition of their achievement of a senior rank.  With the 2005 amendments to The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan became the first province to present Lieutenant Governor's Commissions to senior ranking municipal police officers.
