HUDSON BAY CELEBRATES SOD TURNING OF NEW SCHOOL

Released on November 22, 2013

Today, Carrot River Valley MLA Fred Bradshaw on behalf of Education Minister Don Morgan joined students, dignitaries and representatives from the North East School Division to celebrate the start of construction on the brand new $28 million school in Hudson Bay.  The Government of Saskatchewan has committed more than $17 million toward the development of this project.

The new Hudson Bay School will boast room for almost 400 students ranging from pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12.  The facility will also include a child care centre with 36 spaces.

“We believe our continued investment into Saskatchewan’s education facilities for our students and early learners will directly, and positively impact the future success of our students,” Bradshaw said.  “This new school will benefit the children of Hudson Bay for years to come and will provide them with outstanding learning opportunities.”

There will also be $451,000 in community-funded enhancements to the school, including the addition of a mezzanine to the gymnasium, an expansion to the practical and applied arts wing and a student lounge.

“This sod turning is a symbol of shared commitment and shared responsibility,” North East School Division Board Chair Kathy Ponath said.  “The partnership between the Government of Saskatchewan, our school division and the community of Hudson Bay has allowed boundaries to be expanded in envisioning what the new facility will look like, and has made it possible to build a school that truly reflects the community’s values and needs.”

The Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $600 million since November 2007 to move forward 43 major school capital projects and many additional smaller school capital projects across the province.
