SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES NATIONAL CHILD DAY

Released on November 20, 2013

In honour of our province’s children and youth, the government is proud to support National Child Day in Saskatchewan.

“Children are this province’s most precious resource,” Social Services Minister June Draude said.  “I am very pleased to recognize this day as it reminds us all of the importance of ensuring our children have the opportunity to live healthy, happy and productive lives.”

In order to help achieve this objective, the government continues to invest in the Child and Family Agenda (CFA), which will help provide Saskatchewan’s vulnerable children and families with the assistance they need.  The goals of the CFA are that children get a good start in life, youth are prepared for the future, families are strong and communities are supportive.

Since 2011-12, the government has invested $53.7 million into the CFA which has helped to hire new front-line child protection workers, support pre-Kindergarten programs, increase services to children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and support the Building Partnerships to Reduce Crime Initiative.  The CFA is expanding its mandate to include additional work in the areas of education, health and family supports.

National Child Day is celebrated on November 20 each year in recognition of Canada’s adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
