PROVINCE COMMITS $200,000 TO CANADIAN WESTERN AGRIBITION

Released on November 14, 2013

Today, Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart announced a new $200,000 four-year funding agreement with Canadian Western Agribition.  Stewart made the announcement during the 43rd Canadian Western Agribition, a world-class agricultural show and marketplace that takes place every year in Regina.

“We are proud to make this investment in Agribition, an event that is important to the ongoing success of our agriculture industry and provincial economy,” Stewart said.  “Our long-term support speaks to the value we see in Agribition as a global marketplace.  The best in Saskatchewan and Canadian agriculture is being showcased right here.”

The funding agreement outlines the provincial government’s commitment of $200,000 over four years, with $50,000 to be provided for each show from 2014 to 2017.  The Ministry of Agriculture continues to be a platinum sponsor of the event.

“The Ministry of Agriculture has been a great partner for the last 43 years,” Canadian Western Agribition CEO Marty Seymour said.  “This funding allows us to be a leader in international trade and helps maintain our world class status.  Livestock, grain and education are fundamental to the show and our partnership with the province allows us to grow and improve these programs.”

Agribition attracts more than 120,000 visitors each year, including guests from around the world.  The event features more than 4,000 head of livestock, more than 450 commercial trade show exhibits and the Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo.
