Saskatchewan will be represented at the meeting of Federal/Provincial/Territorial Ministers responsible for Justice and Public Safety in Whitehorse this week.
Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant will join his counterparts from across Canada to discuss important issues facing the justice system.
“By working together, we can develop approaches to key issues that affect Saskatchewan people, such as reducing crime and improving access to justice,” Wyant said. “These ongoing discussions with colleagues will further support the work underway in the province.”
A range of issues important to Saskatchewan will be discussed, including:
- The ongoing provincial work to support mental health services for victims and offenders as part of the Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan;
- The progress on criminal law reforms related to cyberbullying; and
- The ongoing collaborative work to develop a response to address violence against Aboriginal women and girls.
The meetings are underway November 13 and 14.
