Real Stucco & Plastering Ltd. of Regina pleaded guilty to two charges under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996 and was fined $1,680 in Regina Provincial Court on November 4, 2013.
The company pleaded guilty to:
- contravening section 116(2)(a) of the regulations (failure to ensure that workers used a fall protection system at a work area where a worker may fall three metres or more) and was fined $600 with a $240 surcharge;
- contravening section 17(1)(a) of the regulations (failure to ensure that all work at a place of employment was sufficiently and competently supervised) and was fined $600 with a $240 surcharge.
The charges relate to an inspection by an Occupational Health and Safety Officer on August 4, 2011 at a residential construction site in Regina. Two other charges were withdrawn.
Occupational Health and Safety conducts approximately 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced. Falls represent more than 12 per cent of all injuries in construction.
