NOVEMBER IS FINANCIAL LITERACY MONTH

Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA) along with Saskatchewan credit unions, are celebrating financial literacy month by asking Saskatchewan people to #mindurmoney.

“We’re proud to join the national effort to help Canadians, and specifically Saskatchewan people of all ages, gain the knowledge, skills and self-confidence to make responsible financial decisions,” FCAA Chair and CEO Dave Wild said.  “Learning more about personal finance keeps your money and identity safe, while helping our economy meet the challenges of growth.”

FCAA and SaskCentral have teamed up to encourage Saskatchewan residents to mind their money by learning more about personal finance.

Throughout November, a series of Tweets and Facebook posts will provide helpful tips, little known facts, and point people to great resources where they can learn more.

FCAA has created a Financial Literacy space on their website, www.fcaa.gov.sk.ca/finlit, where they will curate trusted, free personal finance information and tools from around the web.

“Financial literacy is an important life skill for everyone,” SaskCentral CEO Keith Nixon said.  “Credit unions are all about community and we know if we give people the tools they need, we will have a stronger community and economy.”

The Saskatchewan Plan for Growth: Vision 2020 and Beyond, highlights the importance of ensuring youth receive information, education and experience needed to gain financial literacy, identify future career paths, and learn how to start a business.

Saskatchewan credit unions have been involved with the delivery of financial literacy lessons in schools for several years.  Credit unions also offer guidance and information to members at various stages in their life whether it’s opening their first account, buying a house, or saving for retirement.

There are 53 credit unions in Saskatchewan.  These full service financial institutions serve more than 502,000 members across the province.  Saskatchewan credit unions build lives and fulfill dreams by helping members achieve financial well-being and by investing in their communities.
