Owner Of Yorkton Roofing Company Fined For Safety Violations In Workers Death

Released on December 13, 2013

Mike Molnar, owner and operator of a privately owned roofing company in Yorkton pleaded guilty to one charge under The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 1996.  Mr. Molnar was fined $23,800 in Yorkton Provincial Court on December 4, 2013.

Molnar pleaded guilty to contravening section 17(1)(a) of the regulations (failure to ensure that all work at a place of employment was sufficiently and competently supervised resulting in the death of a worker).

Four other charges against Molnar were stayed in court.

On January 12, 2012, a worker employed by  Molnar fell from a ladder while trying to get onto a roof.  The employee died on January 13, 2012 due to injuries sustained in the fall.

Occupational Health and Safety conducts approximately 4,000 worksite inspections annually to ensure standards are known, understood and enforced.  Last year, 33 per cent of all inspections were in the construction industry.
