Coroners Report Released In The Death Of Barbara Supynuk

Released on December 10, 2013

The Office of the Chief Coroner has completed its investigation into the death of Barbara Supynuk and is making its report publicly available online.

Ms. Supynuk was fatally injured on February 15, 2013 when a City of Regina bus collided with a sign post, which then struck her.

“We investigate all unnatural deaths to clarify the circumstances, but just as important is our role in preventing similar deaths from occurring in the future,” Chief Coroner Kent Stewart said.  “At the close of the investigation, the Coroner has included several recommendations intended to prevent similar deaths and promote public safety, which have been provided to the appropriate parties.”

Coroner Maureen Stinnen found that Ms. Supynuk’s death was due to unnatural causes, the result of a severe traumatic brain injury involving a City of Regina Transit bus.  The manner of her death is accidental.
