A government investment of more than $200,000 will improve access to the marina at Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park to ensure boaters can continue to use the facility in the future.
"Public safety is one of government's highest priorities," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty said. "The repairs to the marina in Rowan's Ravine Provincial Park will ensure boaters can easily and safely access the docks and lake. Government strives to continually enhance our provincial parks. Repairing this marina's wall will once again provide our visitors with an enhanced parks experience."
Over the past ten years, the timber retaining walls of the marina have been failing. The north and east walls have already been replaced and will be effective for years. However, the south wall is deteriorating and requires immediate repairs.
The failing wall will be reconstructed with sloped rock armouring that will provide a safe, maintenance-free area that matches previous work completed in the marina. (Rock armour uses stone to protect shoreline structures from erosion). New gangways will provide safe access to the docks.
The contract was awarded to Morsky Development of Regina. Repairs will begin this fall and will be completed in time for the 2013 parks season.
With the potable water system upgrading completed in 2011 and the work that is taking place in the park in 2012 - electrical expansion and upgrade, as well as the marina wall repair - government will have spent approximately $2.2 million at Rowan's Ravine Park.
Government is dedicated to improving Saskatchewan's provincial parks by investing an additional $10 million in park upgrades over the next four years for a total investment of nearly $54 million.
