GOVERNMENT RECOGNIZES SKILLS AND CONTRIBUTIONS ON LABOUR DAY

Released on August 31, 2012

Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan issued the following statement today in recognition of Labour Day:

"On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I would like to thank the women and men who have boosted Saskatchewan's economy to new heights," Morgan said. "With record growth, our economy is performing at peak levels and we have our workers and employers to thank for that.

"Our government is committed to fostering safe, healthy and productive workplaces. That is why WorkSafe Saskatchewan is working to eliminate workplace injuries and illnesses and why the ministry is dedicated to prevention, education and enforcement. At the end of the day, we want every worker to return home safe.

"Our young workers are also learning about the importance of safety in the workplace. Since the launch of our Young Workers' Readiness Certificate Course, more than 10,000 certificates have been issued as youth learn about their rights and responsibilities, and hazards in the workplace.

"Another important factor in the expansion of our economy is effective and fair labour relations. We will continue to work closely with industry, unions, employers and workers to make sure that our laws and regulations benefit everyone.

"On behalf of the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety and the Government of Saskatchewan, I wish everyone a safe, fun and relaxing long weekend."
