KICKOFF BREAKFAST FOR U OF R STUDENTS IN JDC WEST COMPETITION

Released on January 10, 2011

The Government of Saskatchewan's Information Technology Office (ITO) hosted a kick-off breakfast today for approximately 50 Paul J. Hill School of Business students who are set to attend the annual JDC West Commerce Games business competition.

The breakfast event was held at the University Club at the University of Regina. Later this week the students will travel to the University of Saskatchewan where this year's JDC West Games are being held. The three-day competition runs from January 14 through 16.

Minister responsible for Information Technology Office Tim McMillan, was guest speaker.

"This year's competition theme - Going Against The Grain - not only speaks to the need for future business leaders to rethink and refine existing business models, but also aligns with Saskatchewan's vision for fostering a robust IT industry," McMillan said. "In the years to come, these outstanding young professionals will become the business leaders and visionaries who will build on Saskatchewan's role as a national leader in this global industry."

ITO has been the team's Premier Sponsor since 2008. As Premier Sponsor, ITO provides the team with funding assistance to cover travel and project expenses and also offers two annual internship opportunities to University of Regina business students.

In the last three competitions, the U of R's Paul J. Hill School of Business students were ranked second overall out of 11 business schools competing.

JDC West is the largest student-run business competition in Western Canada. The three-day event showcases academic competitions, athletic challenges, a social competition and a charity initiative.
