WORKERS’ COMPENSATION ACT COMMITTEE OF REVIEW SUBMITS REPORT

Released on December 9, 2011

After consultation with Saskatchewan workers, employers, safety associations, unions and trade organizations, the Workers' Compensation Act Committee of Review (COR) has submitted their report to the Minister of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety.

"I have received the report of the committee and have asked ministry officials to begin a review of the recommendations early in the new year," Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Don Morgan said. "I would like to express my sincere thanks to the members of the Committee of Review for their dedication in reviewing the Act and regulations and presenting recommendations in a timely manner. In addition, I thank their employers for allowing the members the time away from the workplace to undertake this important project."

According to The Workers' Compensation Act, 1979, a committee must be formed every four years to review the workers' compensation program. The review encompasses all matters concerning the Act, the regulations, and its administration. Committee members are appointed to ensure equal representation from business and organized labour groups.

This year, Dr. Roslyn Kunin a former chair and long-serving board member of WorkSafe BC, chaired the committee. Kaylynn Schroeder, Dale Lindemann, Craig McAuley, Shelly McFadden, Marg Romanow and Lori Sali were members from the mining, manufacturing, construction and health care sectors.
