Saskatchewan wage-earners saw another year-over-year earnings increase in September 2010. According to Statistics Canada, average weekly earnings in Saskatchewan increased by 4.0 per cent over September 2009.
Saskatchewan's average weekly earnings for September were $841.74. Saskatchewan occupied the third highest position among all provinces, behind only Alberta and Ontario.
The release follows a CIBC World Markets report earlier this month that shows Saskatchewan leading the nation in "Employment Quality" - a measure that compares jurisdictions with relation to full-time employment, paid employment, remuneration and job stability.
"Earlier this month, CIBC confirmed what we've known for some time - that Saskatchewan is the best place in Canada to live and work," Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris said. "With earnings continuing to grow, Saskatchewan workers are seeing the benefits of quality employment."
Earnings growth in Saskatchewan also continues to outstrip inflation. With a September Consumer Price Index increase of 1.2 per cent, Saskatchewan's average "real earnings increase" was 2.8 per cent. That increase means that overall purchasing power for wage-earners once again improved in Saskatchewan.
"Saskatchewan's growth agenda has yielded positive results for people across the province, and opportunities are still there for skilled workers," Norris said. "Right now, there are more than 6,900 jobs available on www.saskjobs.ca."
