For the fourth consecutive month, average weekly earnings for Saskatchewan workers have reached record levels.
According to Statistics Canada's monthly Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours, Saskatchewan's average weekly earnings for December 2009 were $832.56. Among all provinces, Saskatchewan has the third highest average weekly earnings - behind Alberta ($959.40) and Ontario ($869.55).
"These numbers provide confirmation for our continuing optimism about Saskatchewan's economy," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "Recent economic forecasts place Saskatchewan among the nation's leaders in economic growth in 2010 and beyond. That growth should lead to new opportunities for Saskatchewan workers."
Norris also pointed to an increasing number of vacancies on the SaskJobs.ca website as a sign that opportunities are available.
"Right now, more than 6,200 positions available to job seekers in every corner of our province," Norris said.
