NEW $15-MILLION INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM WILL BENEFIT CHILDREN AND YOUTH IN CARE

Released on October 6, 2009

Social Services has selected a vendor and product for its new Linkin information management system, which will help ministry staff respond to the needs of children and youth in care.

This is an important step in delivering on the three-year, $15-million investment for a single new system to replace the ministry's patchwork of aging information systems. The new Linkin system will help address recommendations from the Provincial Auditor, as well as from the Children's Advocate, following his recent investigation into foster home overcrowding in Saskatoon.

"The development of an efficient single new information management system for Social Services will help ensure the health and safety of all children and youth who are in the ministry's care," Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said. "There is no greater priority than our children, and this $15-million investment will provide the province's child welfare workers with the technology they need to best serve the children and youth who are currently in care in Saskatchewan."

The successful vendor is Curam Software (Canada), the wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary of Curam Software Ltd. (Ireland), a world leader in the development of technology solutions in social security, human services and other government social enterprises. Curam Software is being used by more than 70 agencies in Canada, the United States and around the world, including major implementations in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia.

Curam was unanimously identified as the preferred vendor for software and consulting services for Linkin following a thorough six-month public procurement process led by an evaluation team with more than 60 representatives from Social Services, the Information Technology Office, Government Services and other stakeholders.

Implementation of the new system will begin in 2010.
