Government today announced that Gerald Tegart will be assuming the role of Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General effective June 1, 2009.
Tegart has spent his career as a lawyer with the Ministry of Justice. He replaces Doug Moen, Q.C. as Deputy Minister.
"I am very pleased that Gerald Tegart, with his wealth of experience, will be taking the position of Deputy Minister and look forward to a smooth transition," Deputy Minister to the Premier Doug Moen said. "His knowledge and sound advice have always been of great value to me and to the ministry."
Tegart joined the ministry as an articling student in the mid-1970s. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of the Civil Law Division for the past seven years. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1973 and his Bachelor of Laws in 1976. Tegart was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1993.
Born in Wadena, Tegart has spent his entire life in Saskatchewan. In addition to his commitment to the law and the legal community, he has given his time to various community groups and projects, such as the United Way and the Regina Food Bank.
Moen also announced the appointment of Fredrick D. (Rick) Mantey as Cabinet Secretary and Clerk of the Executive Council. Since November 2007 he has served as the Deputy Cabinet Secretary and Clerk of the Executive Council. He will also retain the position of Deputy Provincial Secretary.
Prior to joining the Government of Saskatchewan, Mantey worked with the corporate, public and not-for-profit sectors in support of government relations, board development, governance and stakeholder relations in senior positions within the governments of Manitoba and Ontario. Past positions held include Special Assistant to the Premier of Manitoba, Executive Assistant to the Minister without Portfolio (WCB Reform) and Special Advisor to the Cabinet Secretary.
