GOVERNMENT FUNDS CRISIS HELP LINE SERVICES

Released on July 9, 2009

Agencies that provide problem gambling help line services in the province are receiving $280,000 in funding from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.

"Our government remains committed to the prevention and treatment of problem gambling," Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) Minister Christine Tell said. "This ongoing funding will help to ensure that people who have difficulties with gambling continue to have access to trained professionals who can provide support when it's needed."

SLGA is providing $95,400 to Prince Albert Mobile Crisis Unit Co-operative Ltd., $92,700 to Saskatoon Crisis Intervention Service Inc. and $91,900 to Mobile Crisis Services Inc. of Regina.

The annual funding will be used to help support 24-hour a day, seven day-a-week crisis management services, including the toll-free Problem Gambling Help Line. The Help Line (1-800-306-6789) handles inquiry and crisis calls related to problem gambling and provides confidential, professional service to problem gamblers and their families from trained counsellors. The services are administered by the Ministry of Health.
