Saskatchewan people continue to benefit from the strong economy with fewer residents receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, according to a release today by Statistics Canada.
"More people are becoming engaged in Saskatchewan's growing economy," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "Our government is working hard to ensure all people benefit from our economic momentum and have the opportunity of a secure and prosperous future."
There were 9,660 people receiving EI benefits in July 2008 a drop of 14.7 per cent from the same month one year ago. This is the second largest drop in recipients of EI benefits across Canada.
"This is an exciting time for Saskatchewan, and I know that there are more great things in store for our province," Norris said. "We are committed to ensuring our province remains a leader in Canada and the New West."
Premier Brad Wall and Norris, as well as 50 Saskatchewan employers, are travelling to Toronto next week to pitch the abundance of career opportunities and the excellent quality of life in Saskatchewan as part of a national job fair.
