$20,000 GRADUATE RETENTION PROGRAM EXPANDED

Released on October 30, 2008

Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris today expanded Saskatchewan's ground-breaking youth retention program by opening it up to eligible post-secondary graduates within and beyond Canada.

"This expansion signals to post-secondary graduates from across the country, and beyond, that Saskatchewan is the best place to establish their careers and pursue their goals," Norris said. "Making Saskatchewan the province of choice for post-secondary graduates is key to meeting our province's talent challenge."

The Graduate Retention Program offers tuition rebates as high as $20,000 over seven years to graduates of approved programs who live in Saskatchewan.

In addition to providing a direct benefit to post-secondary graduates, the newly expanded program also supports Saskatchewan employers in meeting their recruitment and retention needs.

"The Graduate Retention Program provides Saskatchewan employers with a valuable recruitment and retention tool," Norris said. "It is one more way that government is helping employers find and attract the qualified, skilled workers our province needs."

In the weeks ahead, the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour will implement a targeted marketing campaign to ensure that post-secondary graduates across Canada and beyond have access to the information and tools they will need to take advantage of the newly expanded program. Information is also available at the program website at http://www.aeel.gov.sk.ca/grp.
