WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATED

Released on October 3, 2008

October is Women's History Month, a time when Saskatchewan joins with fellow Canadians to celebrate how women have shaped our history, and continue to make vital contributions to the economic, social, political and cultural fabric of our country.

"Women are strong and successful leaders, who help build a secure and prosperous future for all people in Saskatchewan and across Canada," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "We are proud to celebrate women this month, and throughout the year."

This year, the national theme "Women in the Lead" honours the girls and women in Canada, past and present, who have gone first and who have opened doors for others to follow.

"By recognizing the accomplishments of women, we hope to not only raise awareness but to inspire future generations to make history," Norris said. Visit the Status of Women website at www.aeel.gov.sk.ca/swo.
