7,300 More People Working in Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan continues to set new records for employment growth in 2008 according to the latest labour force survey released today by Statistics Canada.
There were 499,800 people working in Saskatchewan in February 2008. That's an increase of 7,300 from February 2007 and an all-time high for the month of February.
Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said Saskatchewan is on a roll and Saskatchewan people continue to benefit from increased employment opportunities in the province.
"Our government's goal is to sustain the economic momentum and to make sure Saskatchewan is ready for growth by having a well-trained, growing workforce," Norris said.
Saskatchewan's unemployment (seasonally-adjusted) also remains low at 4.1 per cent - tied for the second lowest in Canada. Norris also noted that there were nearly 8,000 job openings in Saskatchewan posted this morning on the www.saskjobs.ca website.
"These numbers are good news for the province, but I know that we can do better," Norris said. "I am looking forward to even more exciting opportunities for Saskatchewan people as our province continues to grow."
