SASKJOBS REACHES 1 MILLION VISITORS IN RECORD TIME

Released on April 1, 2008

Fresh off winning the Saskatchewan Interactive Media Association (SIMA) 2008 Excellence Award, the Government of Saskatchewan's SaskJobs.ca website continues to experience record traffic.

On March 28 - 88 days into the calendar year - visits to the site reached the one million mark. That compares to 115 days in 2007.

"These statistics demonstrate that more people than ever are discovering the benefits of Saskatchewan's economic momentum," Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Minister Rob Norris said. "Our economy is creating more high quality, high-paying jobs and people from across Canada are taking notice."

Out of the first million visits, www.SaskJobs.ca hosted more than 150,000 out-of province visitors, including 36,000 from Alberta and another 33,000 from Ontario. The site also hit an all-time single day high on March 10, surpassing the 16,000 mark for the first time.

"Part of the solution to our labour shortage is attracting more people from other provinces, and these numbers show that more people are looking at the great opportunities available in Saskatchewan," Norris said. "This comes on the heels of Saskatchewan's tremendous population growth in 2007, and the news that more people are moving into Saskatchewan than moving out."

Norris said that the Province intends to capitalize on the site's popularity in both provinces through marketing and by partnering with employers to recruit workers in out-of-province events such as the WorkWest Career Caravan in Toronto, which took place March 14-15, and the Regina Regional Economic Development Authority's upcoming Think Regina event in Edmonton April 23.

"By creating an award-winning home base in SaskJobs and collaborating with employers on strategic outreach missions, we want to help turn interest in the website into a greater number of people seizing the opportunities Saskatchewan has to offer," Norris said.
