PREMIER BRAD WALL AND NEW SASKATCHEWAN PARTY GOVERNMENT TAKE OFFICE

This evening at Government House in Regina, Premier Brad Wall and the first Saskatchewan Party government were sworn into office.

"Our new government will reflect the values of the people it serves," Wall said.

"To work hard. To be self-assured but ever humble and mindful of the great honour we have been given to be stewards of the public service, of the public purse and of Saskatchewan's dreams.

"To admit easily of mistakes, to fix them and resolve that they not be repeated. To be respectful. To be innovative and resourceful. To seek good counsel. To be honest. To be transparent.

"And to ask the question at the end of each day - did we leave things better than we found them? That is what we dare begin tonight," Wall said.

Wall named veteran MLA Ken Krawetz as Deputy Premier and Minister of Education. The other 16 members of the new Saskatchewan Party cabinet are:

  • Hon. Bill Boyd - Minister of Energy and Resources and Minister responsible for Intergovernmental Affairs;
  • Hon. Rod Gantefoer - Minister of Finance and Government House Leader;
  • Hon. June Draude - Minister of First Nations and Métis Relations and Minister responsible for Northern Affairs;
  • Hon. Don McMorris - Minister of Health;
  • Hon. Wayne Elhard - Minister of Highways and Infrastructure, Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission (PSC), and Provincial Secretary;
  • Hon. Don Morgan - Minister of Justice and Attorney General;
  • Hon. Dan D'Autremont - Minister of Government Services, Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA), and Minister responsible for the Information Technology Office (ITO);
  • Hon. Bob Bjornerud - Minister of Agriculture and Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation;
  • Hon. Lyle Stewart - Minister of Enterprise and Innovation;

Wall also named seven Legislative Secretaries with special responsibilities for specific tasks. They are:

  • Michael Chisholm - Legislative Secretary to the Premier, Western Canadian Co-operation;
  • Jeremy Harrison - Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Resources, Northern Resources and Oil Sands Development;
  • Serge LeClerc - Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing, Corrections Facilities Initiative;
  • Greg Ottenbreit - Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Social Services, Community Based Organizations Initiative;
  • Jim Reiter - Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Education, Property Tax Initiative;
  • Laura Ross - Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Health, Nurse Recruitment and Retention; and
  • Joceline Schriemer - Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Health, Addictions.

The seven Legislative Secretaries will not receive extra pay for their duties.

Randy Weekes will be the Government Whip and Greg Brkich will be the Deputy Whip.

Wall also named the Chairs of the four Standing Policy Committees of the Legislature. They are:

  • Dustin Duncan - Chair of the Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies;
  • Glen Hart - Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Services;
  • Yogi Huyghebaert - Chair of the Standing Committee on the Economy; and
  • Delbert Kirsch - Chair of the Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Infrastructure.

Warren Michelson will be the Vice-Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, which is chaired by a member of the Official Opposition.
