Premier Lorne Calvert today announced a major cabinet shuffle in order to provide Saskatchewan people with government that is both experienced and renewed.
"Whether in community organizations, business or government, renewal is critical," Calvert said. "This new cabinet has a mix of brand new Ministers and experienced Ministers in new roles. The result will be energy and fresh perspectives at the cabinet table. At the same time, we will have continuity on key portfolios including Health, Environment, Learning, Agriculture, Northern Affairs and Labour.
"I am very pleased to have Pat Atkinson serve as Minister of Finance. Her experience as a long-time cabinet member as well as her boundless energy and connection to her community will ensure that Saskatchewan people continue to feel the benefits of our strong economy. She will also serve as Minister for SaskEnergy, and continue to serve as Minister Responsible for Immigration and the Public Service Commission.
"I am also pleased to build a cabinet with five new Ministers, including three who join cabinet for the first time. I look forward to their ideas and contribution to making life better for Saskatchewan people," Calvert said.
The new members of cabinet include:
- Ron Harper as Minister of Corrections and Public Safety;
- Lon Borgerson as Minister of Regional Economic and Co-operative Development, and;
- Sandra Morin as Minister of Culture, Youth and Recreation.
Judy Junor returns to cabinet as Minister of Crown Investments Corporation and Minister Responsible for Status of Women. Kevin Yates also returns to cabinet to serve as Minister of Community Resources and Minister Responsible for Disability Issues. Yates will also serve as Government House Leader.
Further changes include:
- Maynard Sonntag will serve as Minister of Industry and Resources and Minister Responsible for Forestry Secretariat, in addition to his current duties as Minister of First Nations and Métis Relations;
- Buckley Belanger becomes the Minister of Highways and Transportation and Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Transportation Company;
- Warren McCall will serve as Minister of Advanced Education and Employment;
- Harry Van Mulligen becomes Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Government Insurance and Minister Responsible for Gaming, and continues his duties as Minister of Government Relations;
- Frank Quennell adds Minister Responsible for Information Technology to his current role as Minister of Justice and Attorney General;
- Graham Addley assumes the role of Minister Responsible for Investment Saskatchewan and Information Services Corporation, and remains Minister of Healthy Living Services and Minister Responsible for Seniors.
"Clay Serby will continue to serve as Deputy Premier, and he will take on new responsibilities as Minister of Property Management. His commitment and experience will prove invaluable as our renewed cabinet guides Saskatchewan through this unprecedented period of growth and prosperity," Calvert said. "I want my Ministers to present their fresh ideas and develop a bold agenda going forward, while we remain committed to making life better for all Saskatchewan people."
