ONLINE ABORIGINAL BUSINESS DIRECTORY LAUNCHED

Released on June 25, 2007

Crown Investments Corporation (CIC) has established an online service to help Saskatchewan-based Aboriginal businesses market their goods and services to Saskatchewan's Crown corporations and to the general public.

"We are very pleased today to launch the CIC Aboriginal Business Directory web site," First Nations and Métis Relations Minister Maynard Sonntag said on behalf of CIC Minister Judy Junor. "The web site provides business news and links to business resources, while listings in the directory are available to all Saskatchewan-based First Nations and Métis businesses that wish to market their products to potential purchasers."

CIC's subsidiary Crown corporations are some of those potential purchasers. They are among the largest companies in the province and they buy almost $2 billion worth of goods and services annually from Saskatchewan-based suppliers. Information about each Crown and its purchasing requirements is listed on the web site so Aboriginal businesses can contact them about opportunities.

"The Crowns recognize that businesses owned and operated by First Nations and Métis people are an important part of Saskatchewan's growing economy," Sonntag said. "We see this web site and directory as a way to introduce these companies to our Crowns and to help them make connections that will lead to increased business."

CIC developed the web site and directory, and will provide ongoing maintenance. The annual cost is expected to be about $50,000 for administration and technical support. All services are provided free of charge to Aboriginal businesses and subsidiary Crowns.
