NEW JUDGE FOR PRINCE ALBERT

Stanley David Loewen has been appointed a judge of the Provincial Court for Prince Albert.

"Judge Loewen's extensive experience as a member of various administrative tribunals, coupled with his knowledge of the law and his connection to northern Saskatchewan will serve him well in his new role as a Provincial Court judge," Justice Minister Frank Quennell said.

Judge Loewen received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1978. He articled with the LaRonge office of Saskatchewan Legal Aid, travelling to northern communities. He has been in private practice in Prince Albert since he was admitted to the bar in 1979. Beginning in 1979, he acted as an agent of the Attorney General, conducting prosecutions in a variety of northern communities. For the past twenty years Judge Loewen has maintained a branch office in LaRonge. He received his Queen's Counsel designation in 1996.

Judge Loewen has been a Labour Standards adjudicator, a member of hearing panels under the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code, a member of the Board of Revision for the City of Prince Albert and has participated in various arbitration boards.

Judge Loewen's community involvement includes membership on the Prince Albert District Health Board, the Prince Albert Economic Development Board and the Northern Lights Community Development Corporation. He is active in Special Olympics, the Canada Games, as well as in coaching and managing minor hockey, softball and soccer.
