PARKLAND CENTRAL RESIDENTS BENEFIT FROM PROVINCIAL INVESTMENTS IN CAPITAL PROJECTS

Released on August 30, 2007

Improved wireless service, road construction and investments in health care are among the many initiatives underway to ensure that families in the Parkland Central area are benefiting from the Government of Saskatchewan's ongoing commitment to make life better for Saskatchewan families.

"Our government is committed to sharing the benefits of our strong economy with people throughout the province, including those in Parkland Central where we have invested more than $62 million in capital projects in recent months," Labour Minister David Forbes said while visiting businesses in Tisdale. "These projects not only enhance the quality of life for people living in the area, but they will improve upon the business climate and give people even more reason to live, work and build their future in Saskatchewan."

Projects that have received funding include the resurfacing of 9.9 kilometres on Highway 35 from Golburn to Tisdale; a $2.1 million expansion and renovation of the Cumberland Regional College in Nipawin; and an investment of $166,000 to upgrade the filter backwash system in the town of Hudson Bay.

"This area is also well suited to take advantage of funding available through SaskBIO, an $80 million program that is key to the development of the biofuels industry in Saskatchewan," Forbes said.

In June, Premier Lorne Calvert was in Tisdale to announce the four-year program, which provides repayable contributions of up to $10 million per project. An additional $2 million will also be provided for biofuels and bioproducts research and development.

"Our province's economy is booming, and this year's infrastructure budget, which is the largest ever, is one way our government is ensuring Saskatchewan residents share in our success," Forbes said. "Investments in biofuels, our highways, educational facilities, health care systems and municipal infrastructure, will help communities province-wide capitalize on the many opportunities being created by Saskatchewan's growing economy."
