GOVERNMENT BOOSTS FUNDING FOR YOUTH PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES

Released on October 13, 2006

The Saskatchewan Rotary Youth Foundation Inc. is receiving enhanced support for its work to promote Saskatchewan as an ideal place for young people to live and work.

The Government of Saskatchewan, through Industry and Resources, will be contributing funding of $150,000 each year for the next three years to the Foundation. Previous funding over the past three years ranged between $50,000 and $125,000.

"Together with support from the Foundation's other sponsors, this three-year commitment will help to provide them with added stability in making long-range plans and achieving meaningful results," Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline said. "Saskatchewan is one of the best places in the world in which to live and work, and it's important that our youth are aware of this as they pursue their goals."

The Foundation gives Saskatchewan's youth access to support, assistance, and a better understanding of the real benefits of living, training and working in their home province. It does this through the My Future is Here (MyFIH) program, which offers help in taking full advantage of the opportunities that exist locally. By showing young people the many innovative business and career paths that are available in Saskatchewan, the growth and prosperity of the province is being secured for years to come.

"The third year of our program has seen tremendous growth," MyFIH Co-founder Marla Morrison said. "The establishment of a youth advisory council is not only spreading the word among the youth of the province, but also telling us how we need to speak to young people in order to capture their attention. They have injected an incredible new energy to the program. Previous participants are also enthusiastic about the program and are now serving as inspiring ambassadors of MyFIH."
