GOVERNOR GENERAL AMONG RECIPIENTS OF CENTENNIAL MEDAL

Released on September 4, 2005

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal to recipients in Regina.

Among the recipients is Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Parkinson's disease researcher Ali Rajput, comedian Brent Butt, artist Joe Fafard and past president of the University of Regina Dr. Lloyd Barber.

The commemorative medal recognizes and honours the important role individuals have played in the development of the province.

"The Saskatchewan Centennial Medal celebrates individuals who give of their time and energy to improve the lives of others. These outstanding citizens exemplify values that define our province, including work ethic, community service, and foresight," Haverstock said.

Recipients are selected based on the recommendation of governmental and
non-governmental organizations and Members of the Legislative Assembly. Community leaders, MLAs, MPs and judges also receive the medal.

"The spirit, innovation, and generosity of these Medal recipients have had a significant, positive impact on our province and, in some cases, beyond our borders," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said. "The Medal provides us with an opportunity to celebrate these qualities and the people who demonstrate them."

Approximately 4,000 Saskatchewan Centennial Medals will be presented at ceremonies held throughout the province this year.
