SASKWATER SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

Released on February 10, 2005

A University of Saskatchewan student is the latest recipient of a scholarship from the Saskatchewan Water Corporation. Minister responsible for Saskwater, Peter Prebble presented the award to engineering student, Edwin Zhang last night at the 46th Annual Engineering Awards Ceremony.

This is the second award from the SaskWater Scholarship Fund, which was introduced in May 2004. The scholarship fund is a $30,000 award agreement with the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina. A $3,000 scholarship is awarded annually at each University to deserving diversity candidates pursuing degrees in Administration or Engineering.

"The most unique aspect of the SaskWater Scholarship Fund is that it is geared toward upper year students who have completed two years toward their degree in good academic standing," Prebble said. "Edwin is an outstanding third year student pursuing an Engineering Physics degree. Student funding is typically less accessible in the latter years of study. The SaskWater scholarship has been designed to help students like Edwin complete their education goals."

Diversity candidates are members of Education Equity groups, which include persons of Aboriginal Ancestry, including Status Indian, Metis or Inuit descent; women; persons with disabilities and members of a visible minority.

The University of Regina scholarship was awarded to Administration student, Elizabeth Nguyen in October 2004.
