IMPROVEMENT TO HIGHWAY 11 NORTH OF DUCK LAKE AND PRINCE ALBERT AREA

Construction is now complete on Highway 11 north of Duck Lake.

Resurfacing took place on a 9.2 km section of Highway 11, from approximately 13 km to 23 km north of Duck Lake. The contractor was H.J.R. Asphalt of Saskatoon. This project is valued at $825,000 and employed 24 full-time workers.

"Highway 11 is an important north-south transportation route for the people of Saskatchewan," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "The improvement to Highway 11 near Duck Lake will serve to enhance safety and support tourism and economic development."

Other resurfacing and surfacing projects in the Prince Albert area include:

• Highway 2 - 12.7 km will be resurfaced north of Wakaw, including 6 intersection treatments.
• Highway 6 - 3.8 km will be resurfaced from the North Saskatchewan River to 3.8 km south.
• Highway 55 - 8.4 km will be resurfaced beginning east of Love and continuing 3.3 km east of the Garrick Access. Two bridges in this vicinity, located 10.6 km west of Love and 15.1 km north of the Junction of Highways 55 and 106 will be resurfaced.
• Highway 106 - 15.3 km will be resurfaced north of Smeaton, beginning 10 km north of the junction with Highway 55.
• Highway 349 - 14 km will be surfaced east of Naicam. Work on this project began last year and should be completed by July.

"These projects are part of our commitment to building better highways," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "We're working to rehabilitate some key transportation corridors in north central Saskatchewan to enhance safety, and support tourism and regional economic development."

Over the past three years, the province has invested $900 million in Saskatchewan's transportation network, improving 1,000 km of paved highways, upgrading 750 km of rural highways, and twinning 172 km on Highways 1 and 16.

This year's budget provides an additional $294.8 million to improve another 740 km of major highways and 30 bridges, and twin 53 km on Highways 1 and 16 this construction season.
