WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS WEEK RECOGNIZED
Released on May 6, 2003
The significant contribution made by women to Saskatchewan's economy is being recognized during Women Entrepreneurs Week in Saskatchewan, May 4th-10th.
Approximately 30 per cent of all Saskatchewan businesses are owned by women, and those businesses employ tens of thousands of people across the province.
"Women entrepreneurs continue to demonstrate their business ingenuity as more and more women establish or expand business operations in the province," Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline said. "Women Entrepreneurs Week is an opportunity to celebrate the successes and achievements of Saskatchewan's women entrepreneurs and to acknowledge their important contribution to our wide open future in Saskatchewan."
"Women Entrepreneurs Week allows us to draw attention to the fact that successful business women are leaders and mentors for other women -- especially young women and youth," Minister Responsible for the Status of Women Deb Higgins said. "Their accomplishments help young women to see business ownership as a career option."
The week's celebration is highlighted by the Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan's annual general meeting and business symposium on May 9th in Saskatoon.
Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan is a non-profit organization that encourages and helps women start or expand businesses in the province. Over the past seven years, Women Entrepreneurs has lent almost $6.3 million to new and existing businesses in Saskatchewan, which has resulted in creation of 429 full-time jobs.
